Kim Black

Songstress Kim Black was born in Detroit, MI. Her family moved to the Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia area where she was educated and attended Georgetown University.

Kim is known for her “Chaka” vocals, appearance, the complete package. These attributes have made “Masterjam featuring Kim Black: A Rufus & Chaka Khan Experience,” the DMV’s premier Rufus & Chaka tribute, a R&V Live Entertainment Production venture. She has a range of musical experience with R&B, funk, jazz, and classical. She’s opened for jazz festivals featuring Marcus Johnson, Chelsey Greene & the Greene Project, and the Terry Koger Quartet, as well as shows featuring Vivian Taylor, known for her acclaimed Phyllis Hyman tributes. She’s been a background vocal artist for Nick Carr and Stoney Ellis. She was the lead vocalist of well-known funk and R&B bands in the DMV. Kim starred in the lead roles of local productions of the musicals “West Side Story” as “Maria” and in “Carnival” as “Lili”. From 2021-2022, she was a lead role in “Queen of the People’s Hearts,” a musical about Diana, Princess of Wales, with performances at Capital Hall (Tysons, VA) and other venues qualifying her to be in “Playbill” and which was performed abroad. Kim was the worship leader for the DC Grace Conferences, 2011-2013.
