Ebony is a Muslim American Singer/Songwriter who’s selection of music is universal. (Universal=variety of genres) Her rich, vibrant and power house of a voice is what you have been missing! One of her goals is to introduce a new music genre into the Grammys for “Inspirational” song artist in order to include Muslims. She hails from the nation’s capitol of Washington, D.C.. Named by her socially-conscious parents, the English word Ebony radiates strength, poise and that rare ancient beauty of dark skin. The Arabic word Khan means King or Ruler. Yes, this is her birth name. If it is new to you Ebony Khan is not. She has been in the entertainment business for over 30 years. While she bares the same last name of our beloved Chaka Khan, they do not share the same family ties. What they do share is the ability to deliver nothing short of pure, entertaining originality. Ms. Khan has opened up for many celebrity Artist such as Mos Def, Kindred and The Family Soul and Common. She has also shared the stage at The Essence Music Festival in New Orleans with the late and great Tina Marie, Fantasia Burrino, Music Soul Child, John Legend, Mary J. Blidge, Mint Condition and Destiny’s Child. Exemplifying a classy style and similar beauty features, she is often compared to greats like Phyllis Hyman.
Ebony’s voice is like a songbird that soothes the ears, heart, mind and soul. Possessing a rich flavor of versatility and a sweet deliverance, she takes you on a journey that has surely been missed. She has won and appeared in many talent competitions. The most well known is Showtime at The Apollo where she was a three time winner. She has also appeared in the Muslim Journal newspaper countless times for her efforts and accomplishments. In 2008, Ebony was awarded Outstanding Achievement in Cultural Arts Artist of the Year. One of her most memorable performances was the 2001 MAS National Convention in Chicago, where she electrified an audience of nearly 20,000 with her rendition of the The Star Spangled Banner. This performance has led her to being retained for ESPN Friday Night Boxing Live and events around the country. Ms. Khan recently participated in the 2nd Annual DC Black Theatre Festival known to many Hollywood participants like Actors Lamman Rucker, and Kim Fields. She was a soloist for the non-traditional play “ No! More War!” by playwright K. Fatimah Woolfolk. Ebony impressed audiences with her performance of “If You’re Out There” By John Legend. In her spare time Ebony contributes her talent and support to charitable causes and events. This includes participating in the Moral Summit Weekend in Charlotte, NC, raising funds for a women’s shelter in Baltimore, mentoring and performing at Schools and Colleges across the nation. Currently, Ebony is completing her 3rd LP titled “Peace of Me”.
